Hot weather sparks five fires in one day near Cascade
Forest Service officials say fire containment operations commenced mid-afternoon on Thursday on the Cougar Fire, estimated at 75 acres.
The Cougar Fire was reported three miles southwest of Warm Lake and 20 miles northeast of Cascade.
Four other fires started near the Cougar Fire, all under an acre in size. Firefighters were dispatched to the areas.
All fires seem to be started by the hot and dry weather conditions.
"The public is asked to avoid the Trail Creek Hot Springs area as it is closed," said Ronda Bishop, of Cascade Ranger District. "We are concerned about the smoke having an impact to travelers along the Warm Lake highway."
Many resources are being used at the West Scriver Fire near Crouch. The last estimate was 600 acres.
Officials say around 200 firefighters are on scene, whereas there are 52 on the Cougar Fire.
All fires are being monitored overnight with wind gusts up to 40 mph.
