Pearl Boy was well-received by fans. However, there are also negative reviews calling the manhwa “just another porn-without-plot type of story”. Also, the author, Zoy, was criticised for promoting sexual violence through her work. The Pearl Boy manga follows the story of a former gay bar server, Dooshik, who absconded with funds from his former place of work. He runs to a small, coastal town where he resides until his money dwindles. Concerned about how to raise funds for himself, he enters a restaurant where he eats food to satisfy his hunger. However, he has no money to pay for his food and abscondes again, which forces his server, Jooha, to pay for it.

Kang Dooshik
