Popular Meridian breakfast restaurant, Steve's Cafe, now known as Terri's Cafe
MERIDIAN — Steve's Cafe in Meridian has a new name and a new owner, but that new owner wants people to know that's where the changes end.
Terri Haeckl purchased the popular breakfast and lunch spot at 2483 E. Fairview Ave., which is now known as Terri's Cafe. The signs outside changed, but what's inside hasn't.
“I'm telling everyone it's the same great food and the same great crew,” she said.
Haeckl's purchase of the cafe included the menu and recipes. She plans to continue what the first owner, Steve Vincelli, started since the restaurant opened in March 2013.
Haeckl is from Helena, Montana and worked for Steve Vincelli's father, also named Steve Vincelli, at Steve's Cafe in Montana for six years. Haeckl had the opportunity to sell her house and asked her boss for advice about what to do next with the profit from the sale, she said. That's when she learned of the opportunity to purchase Steve's Cafe in Meridian.
Haeckl moved to the area last October to manage the restaurant and see if she liked it. It turned out to be a good fit, and she recently completed the purchase.
“I love it,” she said. “I love the area, and I love the people here.”
Some of the restaurant's specialties include huckleberry-stuffed French toast, homemade corned beef hash and homemade sausages.
There's usually a wait to get a table on the weekends, Haeckl said, but she sees more room to grow business during the week. Her goal is to add another full-time server and expand the staff.
Haeckl is working with the Small Business Development Council, which she said has been a big help as a new small business owner.
In a Nov. 30 Facebook post, the Vincelli family announced the sale of the Meridian location.
"Steve and I and Steven A., want to thank all our guests and employees who have worked for us since we opened," the post stated. "We want to share that we have sold our Steve's Cafe to Terri Haeckl who has been a great manager of our cafe for years. She has done a great job as an employee and will be a great owner. Blessings Steven and Penny Vincelli."
Terri's Cafe is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. seven days a week.
